Crochet looks fantastic and it can be quite a quick craft so you will be able to produce some fun projects and get that instant gratification of having completed something - we all love the "I made that" feeling, even if it is a little wonky! In this post we've collected a selection of our favourite simple and free crochet patterns for beginners to try. Little crochet projects that aren't too daunting for beginners.
Have you always wanted to give crochet a go?
Head over to your local craft shop and pick up a few crochet needles and a ball of yarn and you are good to go! You may also find that your local charity shop has a tin of crochet needles and some balls of practise yarn if you want to save your pennies. We have also found a great series of British crochet tutorials from crochet enthusiast 'Girly Bunches', she has a huge selection of videos available to teach you how to crochet.
Take a look, it's far easier to learn from a video than a book!
We hope this selection of free crochet projects inspires you to give crochet a go and make a few fun little projects - do share them with us on our facebook page or tweet us a picture. Don't worry about them being as perfect as these gorgeous examples, craft is as much about the enjoyment of making as it is the final product!
Crochet snowflake Pattern
from VeryBerry Handmade - These would make amazing Christmas tree decorations or to hang in a window - you could even make a rainbow of crochet snowflakes if you have some coloured yarn or wool to use up! (are you inspired yet!)
Crochet Mug Cozy with button
- I'm not convinced this would keep your coffee warm but it will certainly warm the cockles of your heart when you wrap it around your mug and think "I made that!" Could be customised into a little cuff too!
Step by Step Crochet Flower Tutorial
- Skip to my Lou has created this pattern for a crochet flower, once you have mastered the basic stitches you can give this project a go - and just keep making little crochet flowers until you run out of yarn - they look great in numbers!
Little Crochet Bag free pattern
- In the blog post she suggest you could make this as a little gift for a child (but most of us would want to keep this for ourselves - we could keep our yarn in that and cover it with our crochet flowers!)
Christmas Crochet Bauble Covers
- A free pattern tutorial from Meet me at Mikes - your Christmas tree will look beautiful, you can cover up old tatty baubles with these little crochet covers - or make them into a display of their own - they will deserve extra special attention from your friends and family - we predict plenty of "Ooohhh, did you make those!"
Is that enough to be getting on with? You can always look at our Crochet Inspiration Pinterest board for more ideas - we're always on the hunt for fun free crochet tutorials! :)
